Dedication to Resident Education

Phasor continues to support Neurosurgery Resident education, via sponsorships including Neurosurgery Resident (PGY-1) Boot Camp, numerous free book giveaways, card-per-kit prorgram, and sponsorships of medical student activities (including most recently in the U. K.).

In addition, Phasor continues to provide educational content, such as ~30-second videos to educate the general public, students, and residents, regarding various common topics involving drills and beyond.

IntraCranial Pressure (ICP) Monitoring

Knowing the pressure inside the head can lead to possibly relieving it, resulting in an improvement of symptoms (which can range from a headache to difficulty walking to near-death neurological brainstem compression).

VP Shunts (A Phasor NLITN Video)

VP shunts are among the life-saving procedures which require drilling a hole, placing a ventricular catheter, and connecting it to a valve and distal tubing to divert cerebrospinal fluid from the brain to another region of the body where it's reabsorbed -- hence relieving higher than needed intracranial pressure.

Spine Screws (A Phasor NLITN Video)

Screws are utilized in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine, fixating bones to stabilize a fracture, dislocation, or other problem.  Pilot holes are often drilled to facilitate easier screw placement.

Navigation in the Brain & Spine (A Phasor NLITN Video)

Navigation uses principles similar to maps and GPS to identify and reach brain structures in the safest and most effective ways possible.

Frameless Navigation (A Phasor NLITN Video)

Navigation uses principles similar to maps and GPS to identify and reach brain structures in the safest and most effective ways possible.  It can be frame-based or frameless, with frameless navigation explored here.

Frame-based Navigation (A Phasor NLITN Video)

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) (A Phasor NLITN Video)

Placing an electrode into a specific region of the brain allows certain responses to be controlled (or inhibited) -- such as for Parkinson's disease, tremor, dystonia, depression, or more, depending upon the region...

Stereotactic Electroencephalography [SEEG]
(A Phasor NLITN Video)

Determining the exact location (or "focus") of a seizure can involve placing electrodes precisely within the brain, and the electrode nearest the firing focus (origin of the seizure) can help identify an area that can be destroyed to try to control the seizure (if one such area exists).

Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy [LITT]
(A Phasor NLITN Video)

Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) is a newer technique which allows real-time MRI-based guidance in heating (destroying) a specific region of the brain such as epileptic focus, tumor, or other...

Ommaya Reservoir (A Phasor NLITN Video)

An Ommaya reservoir is a reservoir which allows injection into the brain of substances, such as may be useful for cancer treatment.
